Narrow Band IoT

Connect IoT devices to the internet from almost anywhere

Vodafone’s Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is a reserved channel on the Vodafone LTE network that makes it easy to connect a wide range of objects – such as vehicles, cameras, traffic lights and environment sensors. The service has been specially optimised to handle IoT requirements for small messages, low power consumption and large-scale deployments. This makes it considerably cheaper to use than regular data services and perfect for situations where you need to track the location of low-value assets.

How it works

IoT technologies provide devices with smart networking capabilities to send and receive data for communication, monitoring and control purposes. They are found in an ever-increasing number of places, from water meters and heart monitors to industrial machinery.

NB-IoT is a standardised low-power, wide-area (LPWA) network specially designed to meet the small-data requirements of IoT devices. The network exists to provide wireless connectivity for internet-enabled devices that are outside an organisation’s Wi-Fi range.

Pricing is split into three components: the first covers up-front payments for a SIM card and access point setup; the second is a monthly fee for platform access; while the third is a fixed monthly charge for your agreed data allowance with overuse charges if you exceed the limit. The minimum contract term is 2-3 years, with data bundles going from 0.1MB to 5MB. The service is available to any organisation using between 100 and 500,000 NB-IoT connections during the contract’s lifetime.

Please note: NB-IoT is currently being rolled out across the UK and may not yet be available in some locations.

IoT connectivity over the cellular network

Link all your IoT devices together

Two-way communication across standard cellular networks ensures devices can be monitored and controlled remotely from most locations.

Low power demands won’t drain device batteries

The LWPA network is specifically designed to minimise power drainage and supports a battery life of up to 10 years on optimally designed devices.

Enjoy peace of mind

NB-IoT offers a higher grade of security than most Wi-Fi set ups as standard and private access points are available where compliance is an issue.

Vodafone expertise and experience

Vodafone launched the world’s first NB-IoT network in 2017 and has since rolled out the technology to nine markets worldwide, placing Vodafone at the forefront of NB-IoT delivery.
