The Vulnerability Management Service (VMS) is part of Vodafone’s offering under the G-Cloud procurement framework and provides an efficient and cost-effective way for organisations to scrutinise networked devices for security holes and other weaknesses. This consulting service combines patent-pending tools with proactive security measures to scan an organisation’s infrastructure for critical vulnerabilities. It can then prioritise which vulnerabilities need fixing urgently and provide services to help apply patches and track progress through reporting tools.

How it works

The VMS team is made up of computer security experts, who specialise in breaking into organisations to uncover weak points that could be targeted by attackers for personal gain.

The team uses both internal and external scanning methods. External scans uncover potential points of entry into your organisation’s network from the internet, while internal scans help identify possible security weaknesses that exist within it. Internal scans can more accurately identify and analyse at-risk devices by avoiding potential sources of scan interference such as firewalls.

Outputs

Organisations are given access to a portal that summarises the VMS team’s findings. Thanks to its proprietary X-Force algorithm, VMS can help organisations automatically rank critical vulnerabilities, providing a clear path to identify, prioritise and resolve security issues according to the value of the targeted asset and the likelihood of it being discovered and used.

Organisations can customise the VMS service by choosing from a series of modular service options. These include first-time discovery scanning and scan profile setup, data validation (including monthly checks for false positives), vulnerability rating, management software for tracking fixes, ad-hoc scan requests and vulnerability management workshops.
